Our Services

Peventative Care

Preventative Care

Scheduling regular exams is the best way to ensure a healthy life for your pet and is crucial for identifying and treating potential health problems. Preventative care also increases the likelihood of successful treatment for your pet. A typical annual exam may include:

  • Complete physical exam

  • Vaccines—patient specific and balanced for the needs of the patient

  • Fecal/Intestinal Parasite Screening

  • Testing for heartworms and common tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme, Erlichia, and Anaplasma

  • Additional evaluation and diagnostics, based on your pet’s individual needs

Preventative medical exams are your opportunity to meet face-to-face with one of our vets, to ask questions and address any concerns. Our team looks forward to these visits with you.

Sick Animal Care

Sick Animal Care

SVC provides veterinary care for sick and/or injured animals. We understand that no one wants to see their pet in this condition nor do we ever plan for these things to happen. Please feel free to call us right away and we will work you in as quickly as possible. We will discuss all of the options available and together we will decide what treatment plan is most appropriate for the patient and for you.

Staunton Veterinary Clinic has 75 + years of combined vet experience with AVMA credentialing from the Virginia Veterinary Association and are licensed through the Virginia Department of Health.

With backgrounds in clinical large animal practice, we have recently transitioned to small animal veterinary medicine.

Dr. Tracy Norman - adjunct professor at A&M and PhD - came on in Fall of 2020 bringing advanced imaging to the practice with diagnostic ultrasound. Many other clinics in the area do not offer this service.

Other services we offer:

  • In-house blood machines

  • Digital XRAY

  • Echocardiogram w/ ultrasound

We employ more vet techs in one practice than any clinics in this part of Virginia with seven licensed vet techs and two more joining us in the spring. We are fully equipped to take care of your animal's needs.

Surgery

Surgery

Dr. Mims performs a wide array of surgical procedures. Surgeries range from superficial dermatologic procedures, neuters, ovariohysterectomies (spay), to complex intra-abdominal surgeries. No matter the type of procedure being performed, we provide unparalleled individualized patient care throughout the entire process. Anesthesia protocols are tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Most importantly, patient monitoring during and after the procedure is emphasized for patient safety and patient comfort. You can rest easy knowing when your pet is in our care-- we care for them as if they were our own.

Dental

Dental

Equipped with cutting edge dental instrumentation, our veterinarians can provide top quality dental care for your pet(s). Like a surgery, dental procedures require your pet to be anesthetized. Ensuring your pet is anesthetized safely and comfortably is our first priority when performing any dental procedure. Dental cleanings, oral surgery, and extraction of diseased teeth are the most common types of dental procedures performed. We make it a priority that these procedures are performed comfortably for the pet. This priority extends into the anesthesia recovery period as well. Home care instructions will be provided so that your pet’s mouth can be as healthy as possible.

Laboratory/Imaging

Laboratory/Imaging

SVC is fully equipped with the most modern in house laboratory equipment available. Additionally, if your pet needs a more advanced laboratory testing performed, our reference laboratory can handle any test necessary.

Digital radiography is an irreplaceable tool for aiding in the management of many complex cases. We are equipped to be able to perform digital radiography (x-ray) within the clinic and will show you these images on a computer screen in the exam room immediately after they are taken.
